Srinagar, June 27 (KINS): With just days to go for the start of the annual Amarnath Yatra, the Jammu and Kashmir administration, under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, is working round the clock to finalize arrangements and ensure a safe, smooth, and comfortable pilgrimage for thousands of devotees.
Manoj Sinha will flag off the first batch of pilgrims from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on July 2, amid heightened security.
The 38-day-long yatra will officially begin on July 3 via the two traditional routes: the 48-km Pahalgam track in Anantnag and the 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal, both leading to the revered 3,880-metre-high holy cave shrine nestled in the Himalayas. The first batch of pilgrims is scheduled to leave from Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar base camp on July 2.
According to officials, LG Manoj Sinha has personally taken charge of reviewing preparations and has directed all departments to deliver a flawless and well-coordinated experience for the pilgrims.
“The LG is continuously monitoring arrangements related to accommodation, health services, disaster management, logistics, security and sanitation.
He has instructed that all facilities be made accessible before the commencement of the yatra,” an official close to the preparations, told news agency KINS.
Security forces including the J&K Police, CRPF, BSF, and the Indian Army are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a foolproof security environment along the Yatra routes.
A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, told KINS, “Every possible step has been taken. From CCTV surveillance to physical checkpoints and road-opening parties, the entire route is under multi-layered security cover.”
The Army has increased vigilance along the Line of Control (LoC) to prevent any infiltration attempts. Top commanders have been frequently visiting forward posts and reviewing counter-infiltration preparedness.
Sources said BSF units have been instructed to maintain maximum alertness in border districts including Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, Baramulla, and Kupwara.
“Border security is crucial. Both the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Defence have issued directives to remain on highest alert during the Yatra period,” a senior defence source revealed.
In view of possible weather disruptions or highway blockades, the administration has activated emergency control rooms and has backup plans for accommodation, food supply, and medical response.
Meanwhile, the Amarnath Shrine Board, local volunteers, and civil administration officials are also contributing tirelessly to ensure that this year’s Yatra is both safe and spiritually fulfilling.
“The entire machinery is on its toes. This is not just a religious event but a symbol of communal harmony, discipline, and service. We are fully prepared,” a senior official in the LG’s office said.(KINS)
