Poonch, 07 (KINS): Residents of Sarhoti Jabran village in Mendhar subdivision of Poonch district have urged the government and district administration to provide immediate relief and rehabilitation to families affected by the devastating landslide that struck the area earlier.
The landslide caused extensive damage in the village, completely destroying four residential houses and a government school, while 16 other houses suffered partial damage. Several families were displaced after their homes were rendered unsafe, while agricultural land was also damaged, affecting the livelihood of local residents.
Residents said that despite assurances of relief and temporary shelter, many affected families are still waiting for adequate assistance. They appealed to the administration to ensure that relief reaches every affected household and that displaced families are provided safe accommodation and essential supplies.
The destruction of the government school has also raised concerns over the education of more than 50 students. Residents said alternative arrangements are urgently required so that the affected children can continue their studies.
Locals have demanded a special relief and rehabilitation package, proper assessment of the losses and adequate compensation for affected families. They have also urged the administration to deploy geological and technical experts to assess the affected area and suggest long-term measures to prevent further damage.
Residents said the incident has left several families in a vulnerable situation and appealed to the authorities to take immediate steps for their rehabilitation and safety.(KINS)
