LG Manoj Sinha sets up 3-member panel to probe Vaishno Devi Landslide Tragedy
Srinagar, Aug 29 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has constituted a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the recent landslide that struck the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage route in Reasi district, leaving 36 pilgrims dead and 20 others injured.
According to an official order, the panel will be headed by the Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Jal Shakti, with the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and the Inspector General of Police Jammu as members.
The committee has been tasked with examining the causes of the incident, identifying any lapses, reviewing the rescue and relief operations, and recommending standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent such tragedies in the future.
The panel will submit its report within two weeks to the Lieutenant Governor, who also serves as the Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.
Officials said the move aims to ensure accountability and strengthen safety measures along the pilgrimage track to safeguard devotees.(KINS)
