Child Welfare Committee Anantnag orders removal of Video of minor circulated on social media

Anantnag, Oct 18 (KINS): The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Anantnag has directed social media handlers and individual account holders to immediately remove and refrain from circulating a video of a minor that went viral during an event organized in Anantnag.

Quoting press release, news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) reported that, the CWC received a complaint from the minor, whose identity has been withheld, stating that the gesture shown in the video was misinterpreted and misused across various social media platforms, violating their right to privacy and amounting to abuse.

The minor reportedly faced distress, immoral comments, and threats following the circulation.

After reviewing the facts, the Committee observed that the unauthorized dissemination of the video constitutes an offense under the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and the associated rules of 2016, in addition to other applicable laws. The CWC warned that any contravention could lead to imprisonment under the law.

The Committee has strictly instructed all social media users to delete the content immediately and stop any further circulation. Failure to comply will be treated as a legal offense.(KINS)
