J&K Students association forms 10-member committee to engage Govt on reservation policy

Srinagar, Oct 21 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) on Tuesday held a broad consultation with stakeholders, including representatives from MBBS, Nursing, and Agriculture student associations, community organizations, and other interest groups, to deliberate on the region’s reservation policy and the report submitted by the Cabinet Sub-Committee.

Following extensive discussions, the stakeholders unanimously agreed to form a 10-member committee tasked with reviewing the sub-committee’s report, engaging with government authorities, and proposing actionable recommendations. The committee comprises representatives from various associations, open merit and general category representatives, and other key stakeholders to ensure inclusive representation and a balanced approach.

Dr Zubair Reshi, national spokesperson of the association, said the committee will hold talks with both the government and the Opposition on issues concerning the reservation policy and recruitment processes. “Students are not seeking confrontation; they are seeking conversation. Platforms like these strengthen democracy and foster trust between the administration and the younger generation,” he said.

The association urged the government to make the Cabinet Sub-Committee report public, stressing that the content of the report, rather than the memo, is crucial to avoid confusion and apprehensions among students.

The 10-member committee will begin its work immediately and is expected to present its feedback and recommendations within a stipulated time frame after consultations with the government and other stakeholders. Further updates will be shared with the public in due course.(KINS)
