Srinagar, Oct 21 (KINS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said that the “terror ecosystem” in Jammu and Kashmir must be dismantled to preserve the hard-earned peace achieved over the past five years.
Addressing the Police Commemoration Day event at the Armed Police Complex in Zewan, Srinagar, the Lieutenant Governor paid glowing tributes to police martyrs who laid down their lives in the fight against terrorism and praised the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their courage, dedication, and sacrifices.
“Jammu and Kashmir Police have shown exemplary commitment in the face of both natural calamities and terrorism. Be it floods, earthquakes, or militancy, our brave personnel are always ready,” Sinha said, adding that 1,016 police personnel have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty in the Union Territory.
Assuring full support to the families of the fallen heroes, Sinha said, “We will provide all possible assistance to the families of those who have made the supreme sacrifice. Their names will forever be remembered with respect and gratitude.”
Emphasizing the need to eliminate the “terror ecosystem,” Sinha said, “We will have to destroy the terror ecosystem. Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a drastic change in the last five years, and to sustain this peace, our forces must remain alert day and night.”
Highlighting the tireless service of police personnel, he noted that their work often continues without holidays or public recognition. “There are no holidays or festivals for our police forces. They always keep the safety of people as their top priority,” he said.
Sinha also lauded the introduction of new criminal laws from July 1, which, he said, have strengthened the criminal justice system and empowered the police. “The old laws have been replaced with three new ones to ensure a better and more effective justice system,” he stated.
Reflecting on the transformation in Jammu and Kashmir, the Lieutenant Governor said, “People now have a clear choice about the kind of future they want. Some still spread fabricated narratives, but these must end. The era of confusion is over.”
He further underlined the importance of strengthening the relationship between the police and the public, saying, “A healthy relationship between the people and the police is essential for peace and development. I pray that this bond continues to grow stronger.”
Concluding his address, Sinha extended festive greetings to the police personnel and their families, saying, “I wish everyone a happy Diwali and Bhai Dooj.”
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and several legislators, including Tanvir Sadiq, Sakina Itoo, and Javed Dar, were also present at the solemn event.(KINS)
