Properties worth over 4 Crore attached, drug peddlers arrested, illegal poppy cultivation destroyed under Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan

Srinagar, May 30 (KINS): Intensifying its fight against drug trafficking and narcotics abuse under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday carried out a series of major operations across the Union Territory, attaching properties worth more than 4 crore, arresting multiple drug peddlers, destroying illicit poppy cultivation, and tightening surveillance on medical establishments suspected of misuse of controlled substances.

In one of the most significant actions, Srinagar Police attached multiple immovable properties worth approximately 2 crore belonging to individuals involved in narcotics-related activities. Police Station Bemina attached a double-storey residential house along with around four marlas of land at Firdous Colony, Bemina, valued at nearly 1.5 crore and belonging to accused drug peddler Mudasir Ahmad Pir alias Sahil alias Doge. The property was attached under Section 68F(1) of the NDPS Act after confirmation from the Competent Authority SAFEMA under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. Investigations established that the property had been acquired through proceeds generated from illegal drug trafficking.

In another case, Srinagar Police attached a residential house and land worth approximately ₹50 lakh belonging to notorious drug peddler Shafiq Ahmad Khawaja of Karnah, Kupwara, in connection with a narcotics case registered at Police Station M.R. Gunj.

Extending the crackdown beyond Srinagar, Shopian Police attached a 32-marla property valued at 22.35 lakh belonging to Gh Rasool Dar of Khurampora Trenz Imamsahib. The property was identified as having been acquired through proceeds of drug trafficking and was attached in connection with an NDPS case registered at Police Station Imamsahib.

Similarly, Kulgam Police attached two residential properties belonging to alleged drug peddlers. One house worth 50 lakh belonged to Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir of Kujjar Frisal, while another residential property valued at 52 lakh belonged to Feroze Ahmad Khan of Munnad Yaripora. Both attachments were executed under the provisions of Section 68-F of the NDPS Act after obtaining approval from the competent authority.

Meanwhile, police intensified efforts to curb the cultivation of narcotic crops. In Ganderbal’s Gund area, police detected and destroyed an illicit poppy cultivation during routine patrolling and registered a case under the NDPS Act to identify those involved.

In Anantnag, a joint team comprising police, Executive Magistrate, Agriculture Department officials, Forensic Science Laboratory personnel, and Revenue authorities destroyed an illegally cultivated opium poppy crop spread over nearly two marlas of land in the Lohar Senzi area of Kokernag. Samples were collected for forensic examination, and an FIR was registered for further investigation.

Shopian Police also destroyed illegal poppy cultivation in the Chowan Keller area following specific intelligence inputs. The illicit crop was eradicated on the spot and a case was registered to investigate the unlawful activity.

The anti-drug campaign also led to the arrest of several drug peddlers. In Ganderbal’s Safapora area, police apprehended Salim Ahmad Bhat and recovered approximately four grams of heroin-like substance and 20 grams of charas-like substance from his possession. Another accused, Aubaid Ahmad Dar alias Ubi of Tulmullah, was arrested by Police Station Kheerbhawani after officers recovered around 11.10 grams of heroin-like substance during naka checking.

In Handwara, police arrested Dawood Ahmad Dar of Herpora during a naka operation at Turkpora Zachaldara and recovered Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus capsules from his possession. Separate cases under relevant provisions of law have been registered and investigations are underway to uncover wider narcotics networks.

As part of preventive measures, Sopore Police intensified surprise inspections of medical shops and chemists in the Tarzoo area under the ongoing 100-day anti-drug campaign. Officials scrutinized records related to the sale and purchase of scheduled drugs, psychotropic substances, codeine-based syrups, alprazolam, tramadol and other habit-forming medicines. Shopkeepers were directed to strictly comply with legal provisions governing the sale of controlled substances.

J&K Police reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and narcotics abuse, emphasizing that the strategy focuses not only on arresting offenders but also on dismantling the financial infrastructure that sustains the drug trade. Police urged citizens to actively support the campaign by sharing information related to drug peddling, illegal cultivation, and narcotics-related activities in their respective areas.

Officials said the sustained operations reflect the government’s determination to achieve the vision of a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir by targeting traffickers, destroying illicit cultivation, and preventing the misuse of controlled substances across the Union Territory.(KINS)
