Human Trafficking Racket Busted in Baramulla; Two Accused Arrested

Srinagar, July 12:Acting on a reliable tip, police in Baramulla have successfully dismantled a human trafficking ring operating in Ushkura, Baramulla. The investigation revealed that Shakeel Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Ushkura, was involved in trafficking and exploiting minor girls from outside the Union Territory. A case has been registered at Police Station Baramulla under FIR No. 173/2024, and an investigation is underway.
A police team swiftly raided Shakeel Ahmad Bhat’s residence, rescuing three minor Rohingya girls. The raid, conducted in the presence of a Magistrate and female police officials, led to Bhat’s confession of selling one girl to Mehraj Ahmad Tantray of Kanlibagh. A subsequent raid at Tantray’s residence resulted in the rescue of another minor Rohingya girl. Both Bhat and Tantray have been arrested, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals involved in this human trafficking racket.
Police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
