Srinagar, Nov 9: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Jammu and Kashmir has registered a case against a government official accused of taking bribes from representatives of a car dealership to recommend their vehicles.
According to an ACB spokesperson, Shabnam Arif Mir, former assistant director of employment and nodal officer for the Mumkin scheme in Kupwara and Bandipora districts, allegedly demanded and accepted bribes from officials of Himalayan Motors, located at Tengpora bypass, during 2021-2022. Mir is accused of collecting Rs 10,000 per vehicle to process and recommend vehicles under the scheme.
The investigation revealed Mir collected bribes totaling Rs 4 lakh, with Rs 1.39 lakh reportedly transferred through e-transactions. A case has been filed under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code against Mir and two dealership officials, Sumeer Pandita and Junaid Bashir Beigh. The ACB conducted searches in Bandipora, Kupwara, and Srinagar, seizing several incriminating documents.
