Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remains closed due to shooting stones; Authorities work to restore connectivity

Ramban, Feb 28 (KINS): The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remains closed for traffic as authorities continue efforts to clear multiple shooting stones, and mud slush that have severely affected the route.

The closure, which began yesterday evening, was triggered by shooting stones at various locations between Nashri and Navyug, along with heavy mud slush at Mehd in Ramban district.

News agency KINS reported that continuous rainfall since yesterday has further worsened the situation, with shooting stones frequently rolling down from hill slopes, making it extremely challenging for authorities to restore the road.

The inclement weather has not only hampered clearance operations but also posed a significant risk to personnel working on-site.

Traffic police officials are closely monitoring the situation and have advised commuters to refrain from traveling until further notice. “The safety of travelers is our top priority. Given the current weather conditions and continuous stonefall, the highway remains unsafe for vehicular movement. We urge people to avoid travel until the weather improves and the road is declared safe,” an official statement read.

Authorities have deployed teams with heavy machinery to clear debris and restore connectivity as soon as possible. However, with the unpredictable weather conditions, there is no confirmed timeline for reopening the highway. Commuters are advised to stay updated through official sources before planning any travel on this route.(KINS)
