No general increase in electricity tariffs for 2025–26 in J&K: CM Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, Jan 02 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said that electricity consumers across the Union Territory will not face any general increase in power tariffs during the current financial year, reaffirming the government’s commitment to public welfare.

The Chief Minister said that the consumers would continue to be charged at existing rates, with no revision in the Time of Day (ToD) tariff structure.

“For 2025-26, there is no general increase in electricity tariffs across J&K and the Time of Day (ToD) tariff remains unchanged,” the Chief Minister’s Office said in a post on X as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

The clarification comes amid discussions on power pricing after the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (JKPDCL) had approached the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC), seeking an enhancement in the existing 20 per cent surcharge imposed on electricity consumption during peak morning and evening hours.

However, with the Chief Minister’s assurance, consumers across the Union Territory can expect no additional burden on their electricity bills in the ongoing financial year.(KINS)
