Shia Muslims in Budgam protest against Iran commander’s killing

Calls for three-day mourning from today

Srinagar, Jan 02 : The Shia Muslims in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district staged a protest after Friday congregational prayers against the killing of Iran’s revolutionary commander General Qasim Soleimani.

Iran’s top commander General Qasem Soleimani has been killed in a drone strike in Baghdad.

According to the wire service— the Shia Muslims carried out a protest in Magam area of Budgam district against his killing. They raised slogans against United States (US). The residents here have called for three-day mourning from today.

Reports said that Soleimani, who led a Special Forces unit of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards, has been a key figure of Iranian and Middle East politics. His death exacerbated already-high tensions between Iran and the United States, and triggered concerns of retaliation from Iranian forces. (KNO)
