Sorry State of Affairs: 15 BDO posts vacant in Kupwara, 7 in Bandipora

‘In absence of officers, development work hampered in district’

Bandipora/Kupwara, Jan 21 : In the absence of Block Development Officers in various blocks of twin districts of Kupwara and Bandipora, the official work gets hampered, thereby making common people suffer immensely.

According to wire service—, Kupwara district has 24 blocks with 24 sanctioned posts of block development officers while Bandipora district has 12 blocks.

“Out of 24 blocks, 15 posts of BDOs are vacant in district Kupwara and out of 12 blocks 7 posts are vacant in district Banidpora,” an official said.

Bandipora has 12 blocks which include Aloosa, Bonakoot, Arin, Bandipora, Hajin, Sumbal, Nowgam, Ganastan, Naidkhai, Dawar, Tulail and Bagtore.

In 12 blocks of Bandipora district only five posts of BDOs have been filled which has hampered the official work immensely and the common people have to bear the brunt.

In 24 blocks Kupwara disctricy 15 blocks are vacant which include Teenthwal, Machil, Keran, Hyhama, Nutnusa, Mawar, Qadirabad, Qaziabad, Trehgam, Nidiyal, Rajwara, Tahratpora, Magam, Kuligam and Lalpora.  As per KNO, apart from these blocks post of BDO headquarters is also vacant in district Kupwara.

The post of district panchayat officer (DPO) is also lying vacant while has the additional charge of the post has been given to some other district officer. 

In 24 blocks of Kupwara district 24 posts of assistant accounts officers have been sanctioned, however, all the posts are lying vacant as they have not been filled as yet, thereby making official work suffer immensely in these blocks.

Likewise 23 posts out of 24 sanctioned posts of section officers are lying vacant and only one post has been filled till date.

Talking to KNO, ACD Kupwara Ghulam Mohammad Bhat said that under these circumstances the officail work get hampered as majority of the posts of BDOs are vacant in 24 blocks of the district.

He said that the vacancies of BDOs have hampered the smooth functioning of offices at the block level.

A senior official in posted in district Bandipora said that on one hand the government is talking about strengthening the government machinery at grassroots level and on the other hand they have failed to fill up the vacancies of BDOs in various blocks. (KNO)
