Snowfall in Kashmir continues, Gulmarg freezes at minus 9

Snowfall continued in the Kashmir Valley for the fourth consecutive day on Wednesday, disrupting air traffic, officials said.

An official from MeT department said that the plains received light snowfall, the higher reaches of the valley and Jammu and Ladakh regions experienced heavy snowfall.

He said that the weather had remained mostly dry in most areas of the valley during the day on Tuesday but fresh snowfall started late in the night.

The MET official has forecast isolated to scattered snowfall across the valley over the few days ahead.

He said that Gulmarg famous ski-resort in north Kashmir was the coldest place in the region where minimum temperature was minus 9.0 degrees Celsius.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of minus 1.2 while the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 0.2 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature in Pahalgam – the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra – settled at a low of minus 2.7 degrees.

Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 4.1 degrees Celsius last night.

Jammu city recorded 6.5 degrees Celsius, Katra town 7.2, Batote minus 0.5, Banihal 0.2 and Bhaderwah minus 0.6 as the minimum temperature.
