Police arrests three drug peddlers in Awantipora & Kulgam; Contraband substance recovered

Srinagar , Oct 22 ( KINS): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Awantipora & Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Awantipora, a police party of Police Station Pampore at a checkpoint established at Literabal Pampore intercepted two persons riding a scooty bearing registration number JK13F-1366. They have been identified as Javaid Ahmad Bhat son of Ab Rehman Bhat resident of Nihama Kakapora and Ab Hamid Mir son of Ghulam Rasool Mir resident of Kadlabal Pampore. During checking, officers were able to recover 13 Kgs of Poppy Straw from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Scooty used in commission of crime has also been seized.

Similarly, Police Station Kulgam received a specific information that a person namely Bashir Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Gani Mir resident of Hadigam  has indulged in drug peddling and has hoarded a huge quantity of narcotic substance in his residential house.

On receipt of this information, a Police party of PS Kulgam under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Kulgam alongwith Executive Magistrate raided the specific location. During search, officers were able to recover 6.5Kgs of dried cannabis from the said residential house. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law stands registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.( KINS)
