98 Indian Pilgrims Die During Hajj 2024: External Affairs Ministry

Srinagar, June 21: The external affairs ministry reported on Friday that 98 Indian pilgrims died during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage. “This year, 175,000 Indian pilgrims visited Mecca for Hajj.
The Hajj period is from May 9 to July 22. This year, till now, 98 deaths have been reported,” stated ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during the weekly press briefing.
Jaiswal detailed that six people died on the Day of Arafat and four deaths were accident-related.
He noted that last year’s total deaths during the Hajj period were 187. “Every year a large number of pilgrims from India attend Hajj, and some of them unfortunately pass away during the Hajj period,” he added.
