Srinagar, Oct 25 (KINS): In response to a terrorist attack that reportedly claimed the lives of two Indian Army soldiers and two civilian porters in Butapathri, Baramulla near the line of Control (LoC), a large-scale counter-insurgency operation is underway, with senior Army officers closely overseeing the situation.
The Indian Army has yet to confirm the casualties from this terrorist attack.
The attack occurred late Thursday evening near the Line of Control (LoC) at Nagin Dhok, as reportedly a convoy of the Rashtriya Rifles came under heavy fire from hidden terrorists, resulting in fatalities and injuries among the soldiers.
News agency KINS reported that following the attack on Thursday evening, the Indian Army launched a massive search operation, which continued throughout the night, led by senior Army officers in the area.
“Early Friday morning, Army helicopters were seen in the skies over Butapathri as the search operation intensified, with additional Army personnel deployed in the area,” KINS correspondent reported.
Security forces scoured the rugged terrain, suspecting a possible infiltration attempt given the proximity to the LoC.
The injured personnel were promptly evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and vowed that the sacrifice of the martyrs would not be in vain.
He instructed the Army to issue a strong and swift response to those responsible for the attack, emphasizing the importance of security in Jammu and Kashmir’s sensitive border areas.
In a statement on social media, Chinar Corps of the Indian Army acknowledged the incident, noting, “Exchange of fire. A brief firefight took place between #IndianArmy and terrorists in the general area of Butapathri, #Baramulla. Details are being ascertained.”
Meanwhile, the Indian Army and the J&K Police remain vigilant as they work to uncover the motives and affiliations of the attackers in the latest act of violence in the valley.(KINS)
