MLA Nizamuddin Bhat Urges J&K assembly to ease employee verification process

Srinagar, Nov 8: Bandipora MLA Nizamuddin Bhat on Friday called on the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to press the government for a relaxation in the employee verification process, highlighting its impact on deserving youth who have been denied government jobs due to the alleged criminal records of distant relatives.

Addressing the Speaker, Bhat urged the government to review the existing verification procedures, citing several cases where qualified candidates have been blocked from employment based on family backgrounds. One such case involved Sobiya Mushtaq, an orphan, who Bhat claimed was twice denied a government job due to her family’s background.

Bhat also referenced journalist Sajad Gul’s family, noting that Gul’s brother faced delays in the verification process despite having been selected for a government position on merit.

“These policies are unjustly penalizing innocent individuals, especially disadvantaged youth,” Bhat remarked, urging Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene. He called for a fairer verification system that ensures job applicants are not held accountable for the actions of distant or unrelated family members.
