Jammu, Sept 01 (KINS): Leader of Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Monday briefed Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Raj Bhawan Jammu about the large-scale destruction caused by recent cloudbursts, incessant rains, and flash floods across the region.
On the second day of his visit to assess the ground situation, Amit Shah was apprised of the loss of lives, livestock, homes, and infrastructure. Sharma urged the Home Minister to deploy special central teams to conduct a transparent survey of the affected districts and recommend immediate relief and rehabilitation measures.
He pressed for a comprehensive relief package covering financial aid, temporary shelters, food supplies, and restoration of basic services. Highlighting the alarming scale of destruction, Sharma said roads have been washed away, power infrastructure damaged, and several remote areas remain cut off.
“The affected population is in distress and requires urgent government intervention,” Sharma stressed, while seeking a long-term plan for rebuilding roads, electricity networks, and water supply systems. He also emphasized the need for stronger disaster preparedness to mitigate future calamities.
Assuring support, the Union Home Minister said the Centre stands firmly with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and all necessary steps will be taken to ensure timely relief and restoration.(KINS)
