BJP MLAs disrupt Assembly proceedings over flood victims issue

BJP MLAs disrupt Assembly proceedings over flood victims issue
KINS Correspondent
Srinagar, Oct 30 (KINS): The Legislative Assembly on Thursday witnessed chaos as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators disrupted proceedings, raising slogans against the government and demanding immediate discussion on the plight of flood victims.

As soon as the House began its proceedings, BJP MLAs stood up and moved an adjournment motion, seeking to suspend the Question Hour to take up the flood victims’ issue. However, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather turned down the request, saying the matter could be discussed during the Zero Hour.

Unhappy with the Speaker’s decision, the BJP members created ruckus in the House, entering the well and shouting slogans, which led to complete disruption of the Question Hour. Some BJP legislators were later marshalled out of the Assembly after repeated warnings from the Chair.

Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma accused the government of being indifferent towards flood victims. “Flood victims are facing immense hardship. This is the biggest issue right now. Why has the adjournment motion been disallowed?” Sharma asked, according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

The Speaker reiterated that the issue could be taken up later during the Zero Hour, but his remarks triggered further uproar. National Conference (NC) members countered the BJP’s sloganeering with chants of “Choor machiye shoor,” leading to noisy scenes on both sides of the House. (KINS)
