Nitin Gadkari chairs annual meet of State, UT transport ministers in New Delhi; J&K Minister Satish Sharma participates

Srinagar, Jan 08 (KINS): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Thursday chaired the annual meeting of transport Ministers from all States and Union Territories in New Delhi, bringing to deliberate on strengthening India’s transport ecosystem through coordinated and citizen-focused reforms.
News agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) reported that Jammu and Kashmir was represented at the meeting by Transport Minister Satish Sharma, who participated in the discussions and shared perspectives on regional transport priorities and challenges.
The high-level meeting witnessed constructive and wide-ranging deliberations on crucial issues such as road safety, passenger and public convenience, ease of doing business in the transport sector, and reforms in automobile regulations. Emphasis was laid on reducing road accidents, improving transport infrastructure, streamlining regulatory processes, and adopting technology-driven solutions to enhance efficiency and transparency.
Gadkari underlined the importance of a unified approach, noting that transport being a Concurrent Subject under the Constitution requires close coordination between the Union and State Governments. He stressed that regular interactions between the Centre and States are essential to ensure policy alignment, address region-specific concerns, and accelerate the implementation of national transport initiatives.
The meeting also focused on strengthening cooperative federalism, with participants agreeing that collaborative policymaking and shared responsibility are key to delivering safe, efficient, and citizen-centric transport services across the country.
Officials said such annual engagements provide a vital platform for States and Union Territories to exchange best practices, resolve operational challenges, and work in tandem with the Centre to modernise India’s transport sector while keeping public convenience and safety at the forefront.
Later, addressing a press conference, Nitin Gadkari said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon formally launch a nationwide cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims across India.(KINS)
