Rain batters J&K, fresh snowfall temporarily closes Mughal Road

Srinagar, Oct 15 (KINS): Rain lashed several parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, while fresh snowfall covered higher reaches, including Gulmarg and Sonamarg, triggering a drop in temperatures and disrupting road connectivity.

Mughal Road was closed following snowfall, with authorities deploying men and machinery to clear snow from affected stretches.

Udhampur recorded the highest rainfall at 59.6 mm, followed by Poonch at 39.5 mm. The Meteorological Department forecast further rain, gusty winds and isolated hailstorms, with light snowfall likely in higher reaches.

Farmers were advised to safely store harvested crops amid the adverse weather forecast. Conditions are expected to improve from October 16, with generally dry weather forecast thereafter.(KINS)
