Assures protection to junior JKAS officer

Srinagar, Oct 16 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said he had taken up the alleged misconduct of a senior IAS officer during an online government meeting with the Chief Secretary, expressing concern over the officer’s behaviour and subsequent threats allegedly issued to a junior JKAS officer.
Reacting to a video of the online meeting circulating on social media, Omar said the senior officer’s conduct, prima facie, did not meet the standards expected of an IAS officer.
“The subsequent threats issued to a junior JKAS officer only make matters worse,” the Chief Minister said.
He said he had taken up the matter with the Chief Secretary in the strongest possible terms.
He, however, pointed out that administrative control over IAS officers in the Union Territory rested with Lok Bhavan.
“As CM I’ve instructed the CS to ensure the JKAS officer faces no retributive action,” he said.
The Chief Minister’s intervention comes amid the circulation of the video on social media, which has drawn attention to the conduct of senior officials during official proceedings and the alleged threats against a junior officer. (KINS)
