Tangmarg businessman Shabir Ahmad Mir joins PDP

A prominent businessman from Tangmarg area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Shabir Ahmad Mir on Friday joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mir, who was associated with National Conference (NC), resigned from the party earlier this week.

He joined the PDP in presence of its president Mehbooba Mufti at her Fairview residence in Gupkar, Srinagar.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Mehbooba said Mir would be the party’s candidate for Tangmarg constituency in upcoming assembly elections.

The State of Jammu and Kashmir is presently under president’s rule.

While the regional parties have appealed the central government to hold the assembly elections in the state, the Election Commission of India has not announced the dates as of yet.

The delay in announcement of assembly elections has drawn severe criticism from all the mainstream parties in the state.
