Srinagar, Dec 25: In a bone-chilling turn of weather, the Kashmir region experienced a significant drop in temperatures today, as recorded by the Kashmir Weather monitoring. The sub-zero temperatures have left the valley draped in a frosty embrace, creating a winter wonderland for some and posing challenges for others.
The summer capital, Srinagar, saw the mercury plunge to -2.3°C, while Qazigund recorded a chilly -2.6°C. Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination, shivered at -4.3°C, and the famous skiing resort of Gulmarg experienced a freezing -2.6°C. The town of Bandipora’s temperature was not available at the time of reporting.
In the Jammu region, comparatively milder temperatures were observed, with Jammu city recording 7.3°C, Banihal at 6.2°C, and Katra at 8.1°C. However, the higher reaches, such as Bhaderwah at 2.4°C and the scenic town of Batote at 5.9°C, also experienced a nip in the air.
Ladakh, known for its extreme cold, witnessed Leh at -6.8°C and Kargil at -7.3°C, while the temperatures in Drass were not available.
The cold spell is expected to continue, adding an extra layer of frost to the picturesque landscapes of Kashmir.
