Jammu to host International matches soon, says sports minister Satish Sharma ‘Not J&K BJP, PM Modi very serious about J&K’s development’

Srinagar, Nov 18 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir’s Sports Minister, Satish Sharma, said on Monday that Jammu will soon host international-level matches.
Speaking at the Senior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship in Jammu, Sharma said that the government is committed to upgrade sports infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir to international standards.
“Efforts are underway to invite international teams and host cricket and football matches at Jammu Stadium. Our top priority is creating world-class infrastructure to ensure Jammu becomes a hub for international sports,” Sharma told reporters in Jammu, as per news agency KINS.
He assured that the infrastructure upgrades are progressing rapidly, with the first international matches expected to be held this year.
“The way things are shaping up, international-level matches will be played in Jammu by the end of this year,” Sharma stated.
The minister also addressed the issue of sports personnel awaiting regularization, confirming that their cases—affecting around 500 athletes—will soon be taken up in the cabinet for resolution.
Sharma highlighted the growing challenge of drug abuse in the Union Territory, attributing it to efforts by neighboring countries to destabilize youth.
“Drugs are being pushed into this side as a cheaper weapon than guns and bullets. This is a major concern, and we need active police intervention to break this nexus and protect our youth,” he said.
When questioned about the BJP’s performance in Jammu and Kashmir, Sharma criticized the local BJP leadership while praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dedication to the development. “PM Modi is genuinely committed to J&K’s progress, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is equally focused on ensuring prosperity across all sectors,” he added.(KINS)
