Srinagar, Dec 16 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, while addressing a gathering at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Degree College on Monday, urged students to eliminate any sense of contentment from their minds, calling it a major obstacle to achieving a bright future.
The programme, organized to honour meritorious students, also marked the fourth death anniversary of former MP Satyadev Singh.
Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Sinha spoke passionately about education reform, innovation, and India’s potential to reclaim its historical global leadership.
Praising the National Education Policy (NEP), Sinha highlighted its focus on fostering curiosity and flexibility, allowing students to align their studies with their interests and aptitudes. Drawing inspiration from mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, he remarked, “Had Ramanujan not been allowed to study his preferred subjects, the world might have lost a great mathematician.”
He urged teachers to nurture creativity in students, encouraging them to move beyond outdated constraints to develop original ideas and surpass the achievements of 20th-century scientists.
Sinha emphasized the importance of blending scientific innovation with cultural values to position India as a global leader. He criticized the stagnation in education, pointing out that no significant reforms were made for 34 years. “This outdated system weighed down students and stifled innovative thinking,” he said.
Reflecting on India’s economic history, Sinha noted that the nation accounted for 33% of the global GDP in the 11th century. However, repeated invasions and colonial exploitation reduced India’s share to 4% by 1950.
He commended the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that India’s GDP share has risen to 15% in 2023. Sinha called for continued efforts to expand global trade and reclaim India’s 33% share in the world economy, aspiring for the nation to once again become a “Vishwa Guru” (world leader).
“We cannot afford to rest. The goal is to propel India to the top of the global economy, and our youth must lead this transformation,” Sinha concluded, inspiring the students to dream big and work tirelessly for the nation’s progress.(KINS)
