Top Brass returns to Srinagar as Civil Secretariat resumes summer operations

Srinagar, May 05 (KINS): Senior officials of the Jammu and Kashmir government, including the Lieutenant Governor, ministers, and top bureaucrats, resumed work from the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar on Monday, marking the annual transition of administrative functioning to the summer capital.
Though both Jammu and Srinagar secretariats remain operational year-round, the government leadership traditionally shifts to Srinagar from May and early November, returning to Jammu for the winter months.
This seasonal relocation was once formalized under the century-old Darbar Move which saw the complete transfer of offices and staff between the two capitals every six months. The practice was officially discontinued following the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories in August 2019.
“Today, I resumed office at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar after six months. The focus now is clear — action, accountability, and reaching every individual through good governance and development. Let’s make these six months count,” the Office of Chief Minister quoted Omar Abdullah as saying in a post on X.(KINS)
