Srinagar, Sep 06 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday reverberated with prayers and processions as thousands of Muslims celebrated Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The largest congregation was witnessed at the revered Hazratbal shrine on the banks of Dal Lake, where the holy relic of the Prophet (SAW) was displayed.

From the early hours, devotees—many arriving overnight from far-off villages—flocked to Hazratbal to participate in the special prayers. The atmosphere turned deeply emotional as the relic was unveiled, with worshippers raising their hands in supplication, reciting Quranic verses, and shedding tears of reverence.

“Seeing the blessed relic fills our hearts with peace and tears of joy. For us, this is not just an occasion—it is a reminder of the Prophet’s mercy, love and guidance,” said Ghulam Nabi, who had travelled from Kupwara to join the congregation, while speaking to Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, which manages the shrine, had put elaborate arrangements in place, ensuring facilities for devotees who camped overnight to join the morning prayers.

Large gatherings were also reported from other major shrines and mosques, including Khanqah-e-Maula, Dastgeer Sahab, Makhdoom Sahab, and Jenab Sahab Soura. In south Kashmir’s Anantnag, thousands assembled at the historic Khiram Hazratbal shrine, which also houses a relic of the Prophet (SAW). “This day unites us in faith and remembrance. It strengthens the bond of devotion across our community,” said a local resident, visibly moved after prayers.

Similar processions and congregations were held in Pulwama, Shopian, Bandipora, Budgam, Tangmarg, Beerwah, Kangan, Sumbal, Hajin, and other districts. In Budgam, large numbers of devotees gathered at Ziayarat Hazrat Syed Hussain Simnani (RA) and Charar-e-Sharief. Reports of solemn celebrations also came in from parts of the Jammu division.

The civil and police administration had made security and traffic arrangements across the Union Territory to facilitate smooth movement of devotees, ensuring hassle-free participation in the day’s religious events.(KINS)
