Srinagar, Sep 08 (KINS): The National Child Development Council (NCDC) held a Core Committee meeting to discuss measures to strengthen support for children’s mental and emotional well-being, with emphasis on greater awareness among parents and teachers.
Members said parents and teachers are often the first to notice changes in a child’s behaviour and stressed the need to respond with empathy rather than labelling, comparing or humiliating children.
The committee called for regular training programmes on child psychology, emotional development, parenting and early identification of behavioural concerns. It also proposed strengthening Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) by making meetings more interactive and training-oriented, including online sessions for parents unable to attend physically.
Members further stressed the importance of regular communication between teachers and parents to address concerns at an early stage. They also highlighted academic pressure and other challenges faced by children, calling for better teacher training in child and adolescent psychology.
The committee emphasised that understanding the reasons behind a child’s behaviour and providing appropriate support can help create a healthier and more supportive learning environment.(KINS)
