Srinagar, Apr 30: As the threat of floods loomed large over Kashmir, with incessant rainfall battering the valley for three consecutive days, residents feared the worst. However, hope emerged as the water levels in Jhelum and other water bodies began to recede, signaling a sigh of relief for the residents.
Despite the alarming rise in water levels at key points like Pampore in Pulwama and Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar, the situation took a positive turn as the rainfall ceased late at night. The timely halt in precipitation allowed the water levels to stabilize and gradually diminish.
The challenges persisted as the Pohru Nallah in Kupwara overflowed, triggering flash floods in the frontier district and inundating low-lying areas across Kashmir, including parts of Srinagar. Roads turned into waterways, causing disruptions for motorists and residents alike.
In response to the crisis, authorities took swift action by closing all schools in the valley and postponing university exams as a precautionary measure. Despite the inconvenience, these measures were crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of the populace.
