Kupwara, June 15 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Police, in collaboration with the Army, have dismantled a narco-terror network in Karnah, apprehending three individuals and seizing a substantial quantity of heroin, explosives, and weapons.
During a press briefing, SSP Kupwara Shobhit Saxena emphasized the interconnection between terrorism and narcotics, stating that terrorist organizations use drug trafficking as a major funding source. This synergy creates a vicious cycle that fuels their operations.
Acting on specific intelligence, a joint JKP and Army team set a trap in Karnah, leading to the arrest of Shafeeq Ahmad Sheikh and Tariq Ahmad Malik with approximately 500 grams of heroin. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Parvez Ahmed Pathan from Sadhpura, who was found with three pistols, 76 pistol rounds, six pistol magazines, and approximately 5 kg of suspected explosives.
An FIR has been registered at the Kupwara Police Station, and further investigations are underway to dismantle the entire network.
SSP Saxena highlighted that narco-terrorism creates an environment conducive to terrorist activities, with terrorist groups exploiting drug peddlers to support their operations. He reiterated that narco-terrorism poses a significant threat to peace in the Union Territory, as it funds and perpetuates terrorism and instability. He warned that youths influenced by narcotics are more susceptible to radicalization and recruitment by terrorist organizations, perpetuating a cycle of violence.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police reaffirm their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and narco-terrorism.(KINS)
