Kupwara Police nab two drug peddlers

Srinagar, Nov 19 (KINS): In a significant anti-narcotics operation, Kupwara Police apprehended two drug peddlers and recovered approximately 99 grams of a brown sugar-like substance near Nerampora Bridge in Trehgam.
Acting on a routine checkpoint setup, a police team from Police Station Trehgam intercepted a white Maruti Swift Dzire (Registration No. JK09B-3874) traveling from Nerampora towards Trehgam. Initially, the vehicle attempted to evade the checkpoint but was swiftly stopped by alert personnel.
The driver, identified as Javid Ahmad Sheikh, and the passenger, Sajad Ahmad, both residents of Gulgam, were taken into custody. Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered the contraband substance.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the duo was actively involved in the illegal sale of narcotics, particularly targeting local youth. The substance was seized on-site, and a case was registered under FIR No. 84/24 at Police Station Trehgam, invoking Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act.
Authorities have initiated an investigation, and further arrests are expected as part of a concerted effort to dismantle the drug network in the region.(KINS)
