Outrage in Kashmir as hundreds mourn Nomadic woman killed after assault in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 05 (KINS): A wave of grief and anger swept through the Hariganiwan area of Kangan on Monday as hundreds gathered to attend the funeral of a nomadic woman who died following a brutal assault in Srinagar’s Nishat area.

The woman’s body was brought to her native village in the afternoon, where a large crowd turned out to offer prayers and bid farewell.

She was laid to rest at the local graveyard amid visible sorrow and rising calls for justice.

The tragic incident, which occurred on Sunday, has sparked widespread outrage across Kashmir.

According to police, the woman was assaulted near Water Works Road in Nishat by a group of individuals in an apparent attempt at sexual violence. She sustained critical injuries and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

In response to the incident, police have arrested four suspects and registered FIR No. 35/2025 under relevant sections at Police Station Nishat. A spokesperson said the investigation was launched immediately and is being pursued with urgency.

Political leaders have strongly condemned the crime. They expressed deep shock and demanded stringent punishment for the perpetrators, while assuring support to the victim’s family.

The heinous crime has drawn sharp public condemnation, with many calling for swift and exemplary justice to prevent such incidents in the future.(KINS)
