Police Crack Down on Drug Peddlers in Anantnag: Five Arrested, Significant Seizures Made

Srinagar, Sep 16 (KINS): In a major operation against drug trafficking, police in Anantnag have apprehended five drug peddlers and confiscated a substantial haul of psychotropic substances.
A police team from PS Mattan, during a checkpoint at Bumzoo Mattan, stopped an Innova vehicle with registration number JK02DK/9333. Upon searching, they recovered 11 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 80 Dolo-T tablets, 70 OMODOL tablets, a significant amount of beer and alcohol, and ₹11,500 in cash. The vehicle’s occupants—Lateef Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Ahmad Bhat, and Rayees Ahmad Malik—were arrested on the spot. The vehicle used in the crime was also seized.
In a separate incident, officers from Police Station Anantnag intercepted an auto with registration number JK01AK-7694 at a checkpoint near Wazir Bagh Park. The vehicle, coming from Bangdar, was found to contain a large quantity of illicit liquor. The driver, Riyaz Ahmad Dar, was arrested and the auto was seized.
Additionally, a police team from Police Post Sangam detained Noor Mohammad Ganie at Kudangan Marhama, who was found with a bag full of alcohol. Ganie was arrested and the contraband was seized.
All arrested individuals have been taken to their respective police stations and are currently in custody. Cases under relevant sections of the law have been filed, and investigations are ongoing.
Authorities urge the public to assist in combating drug-related crime and assure that strict actions will be taken against offenders.(KINS)
