Jammu, Apr 27 (KINS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday joined a large padyatra in Udhampur under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, urging people to unite in the fight against drug abuse and protect the youth from the growing menace.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor said that the fight against drugs cannot be won by authorities alone and requires collective efforts from every section of society. He called upon citizens to treat the campaign as a shared responsibility and actively participate in making Jammu and Kashmir drug-free.
“Unity will be our shield and resolve our weapon in this war against drugs. We must ensure that our youth remain safe, families stay strong, and society progresses without the shadow of narcotics,” he said.
He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir is rising with renewed determination to reject drug abuse and safeguard future generations. Urging public participation, he said every village, town, and household should become a stronghold against the drug menace.
The Lieutenant Governor said that April 27 should be remembered as the day when Udhampur stood united against drugs, adding that awareness, compassion, and rehabilitation must go hand in hand to tackle the issue effectively.
He also stressed the need to support those affected by addiction, saying they should be treated with care and dignity rather than stigma. He highlighted the role of youth and women in leading the movement and called for widespread awareness about the dangers of substance abuse.
On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor flagged off an anti-drug awareness bike rally, launched Mini-Olympics under the campaign, distributed sanction letters to rehabilitated individuals, and felicitated winners of the Nasha Mukt Ideas Championship.
Later, Manoj Sinha visited Government Medical College, Udhampur, to meet those injured in the April 20 road accident in Ramnagar. He interacted with the patients and their families and directed hospital authorities to provide the best possible treatment for their speedy recovery.(KINS)
