Warmer days, colder nights to prevail in Kashmir, Ladakh: MeT

Srinagar, Dec 9 (KINS) The MeT on Thursday forecast warmer days and colder nights to prevail in  Kashmir Valley and Ladakh till mid December.

Weather will remain dry till December 14. However, light to moderate snow and rain will occur at scattered places of Jammu and Kashmir on December 15, it said.

Moderate snowfall and rain is also likely to occur at scattered places of Kargil, Zojila Pass, Drass, Zanaskar areas of the Ladakh union territory on December 15, the MeT office said.

There is no major snowfall till December 20 in both the union territories, the MeT said.

After slight improvement in cold conditions at most places of Kashmir Valley and Ladakh due to partly cloudy sky on Wednesday, the night temperatures again fell at most of the places in both the UTs.

Drass in Ladakh witnessed a minimum of minus 15.9 degrees Celsius against the minus 14.5 degrees on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Leh was at minus 10 against minus 8.7 degrees a day back.

The night temperature in Srinagar further plunged to minus 2.1 degrees Celsius against minus 0.4 degree Celsius recorded a day ago.

The ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir showed a slight improvement in night temperature at minus 5.8 degree Celsius, against minus 6 recorded on Wednesday.

Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway showed a dip in the mercury at minus 2.1 against minus 1.6 degrees Celsius of the previous day, while Kokernag  was at minus 1.5 degrees Celsius against minus 1.4 degrees on Wednesday.Similarly, the night temperature in the tourist resort of Pahalgam dipped to minus 4.9 degrees Celsius against minus 3.4 degrees a day ago. The minimum temperature in the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara was recorded at minus 2.4 degrees Celsius against minus 1.4 degrees, a dip of 1 degree from a day earlier, the MeT office said.( KINS)
