Nalin Prabhat Appointed as Special DGP J&K, Set to Succeed R R Swain as Top Cop from October 1

Srinagar, August 15: The government has appointed Nalin Prabhat (IPS) as the new Director General of Police for Jammu and Kashmir, effective October 1. He will succeed R R Swain (IPS), who will retire on September 30.
According to a recent Ministry of Home Affairs order, the 1991-batch IPS officer will also take on the role of Special Director General (SDG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police immediately and continue in this capacity until September 30.
The order states, “Consequent upon joining the AGMUT Cadre on inter-cadre deputation from the Andhra Pradesh Cadre, Sh. Nalin Prabhat, IPS (AP:1992) is hereby posted to Jammu & Kashmir as Special Director General (SDG) of Jammu & Kashmir Police with immediate effect and until 30.09.2024.”
Additionally, the order specifies that Nalin Prabhat will assume the role of DGP, Jammu & Kashmir, starting October 1, 2024, following the retirement of R.R. Swain, IPS (AGMUT:1991).
