Jammu , Oct 6 ( KINS ) : In a heated exchange following recent remarks by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the President of the Hurriyat Conference, former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and BJP leader Kavinder Gupta emphasized that Mirwaiz should refrain from commenting on India’s foreign policy. Gupta criticized those who perpetuated the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits and suggested they bear responsibility for the region’s ongoing turmoil.
The political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir has become increasingly charged in response to Mirwaiz’s comments regarding peace in the region. In a recent tweet, Mirwaiz expressed his views on how to foster peace in Kashmir. In reaction, Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravinder Raina and former Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta strongly rebuffed his statements. Raina asserted that India has always strived for friendly relations not just with its neighbors but globally under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. He emphasized that while India seeks good relations, such efforts must be reciprocated for true progress to occur. Raina stated, “If a country extends its hand honestly and faces deceit in return, India will not accept it.”
Kavinder Gupta further stated that no external party should be advising on India’s policies concerning India-Pakistan relations, affirming that such decisions are solely the purview of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Government of India. He reiterated that Mirwaiz’s role is not to dictate India’s foreign policy, asserting, “If it is India’s policy, then the Government of India will decide it.”
Gupta pointed out the historical context of the situation, reminding that it was these very figures who drove out Kashmiri Pandits, urging them to redirect their loyalty towards India rather than expressing affection for Pakistan.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has recently re-emerged on social media after a five-year hiatus, addressing several pressing issues. He also commented on the recent SCO meeting, expressing hope for thawing relations between the two nations. Notably, Mirwaiz had last posted on social media on August 4, 2019.( KINS )
