Srinagar, Nov 07 (KINS): Chaotic scenes unfolded in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly today as a resolution supporting special status for the region sparked heated confrontations between BJP legislators and other members.
The uproar began when Speaker starts proceedings, intending to discuss the Motion of Thanks on the Lieutenant Governor’s address, delivered on November 4. However, the session quickly derailed when BJP MLAs protested the resolution passed by the assembly the previous day, which advocated for J&K’s special status.
Tensions escalated when Langate MLA raised a banner demanding the restoration of Article 370 and Article 35A, which previously granted special privileges to J&K.
This gesture incited BJP MLAs, who stormed into the well of the house, resulting in chaotic scenes and even a physical altercation.
Engineer Rashid, MLA from Langate, found himself in a scuffle with BJP MLAs, with MLAs Sajjad Lone and Waheed Para also joining the confrontation.
BJP legislators voiced strong opposition, declaring they would resist any move seeking the reinstatement of Articles 370 and 35A. In light of the disorder, the Speaker adjourned the house for 15 minutes to restore order.(KINS)
