Srinagar, Feb 17 (KINS): tinderpal Singh Bali, a dental surgeon from Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, has been awarded the prestigious State award for social reforms and empowerment by the J&K government on Republic Day. Known as the ‘First Aid Man of Kashmir,’ Bali, 51, was one of 53 people recognized for their contributions in various fields, including bravery, public service, and social reforms.
Bali is a National Master Trainer with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) and has trained thousands of volunteers across India in first aid and emergency response. His work has made a positive impact, especially in Jammu and Kashmir, where he has worked closely with the Civil Defence, State Red Cross, and different UN and NGO organizations.
His efforts have been particularly important during natural disasters, including the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, floods, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Bali’s work has provided vital help and guidance during these emergencies.
Bali has also represented India internationally, attending a workshop on first aid and pre-hospital care in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His work in public health has earned him recognition both in India and abroad.
Reflecting on his journey, Bali says the 2005 Kashmir earthquake inspired him to get involved in humanitarian work. “Listening to Gandhian Nirmala Deshpande motivated me to take action. We started relief work, and I began training people in life-saving skills,” he said.
Bali later became a professional trainer and eventually a National Master Trainer for the Red Cross in Delhi. He now conducts training on first aid, reproductive health, public health in emergencies, hospital preparedness, and mental health.
Bali stresses the importance of first aid training, saying it can save lives in everyday situations. “Accidents can happen anytime and anywhere. If we are trained in first aid, we can save many lives,” he explained.
Bali’s dedication to helping others and preparing people for emergencies has earned him recognition and set a strong example of selfless service.(KINS)
