Srinagar, Aug 6 (KINS): In view of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have directed security agencies to intensify arrangements across the Union Territory to ensure peaceful and smooth conduct of events.

According to official sources, comprehensive instructions have been issued to security forces to bolster security across all districts, especially in sensitive and border areas. The measures are aimed at ensuring a safe and peaceful observance of August 15 across the Union Territory.

“Agencies have been asked to remain alert and enhance vigilance,” officials told KINS, adding that intensified patrolling, heightened night surveillance, and reinforced border security are being implemented as part of the ongoing efforts.

Authorities have also stressed the need for thorough security audits of vital installations, government buildings, and public places. This includes transport hubs, markets, religious sites, and official venues earmarked for Independence Day events.

“Special focus has been placed on areas along the International Border and Line of Control (LoC) to ensure no infiltration or sabotage attempts disrupt the celebrations,” a senior security official said.

Coordination meetings are being held at various levels to review threat assessments and plug security gaps, if any.

While there is no specific threat, the measures are part of a standard security protocol observed during high-profile events, especially in a region with a history of cross-border terror threats and insurgent activity.

Security drills, mock exercises, and background checks will be initiated to secure venues for official functions, including the main Independence Day event in Srinagar and Jammu.(KINS)
