Srinagar, July 04:.Former Jammu and Kashmir Minister Syed Basharat Bukhari has rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after a nearly six-year hiatus. Bukhari announced his return on Thursday, expressing his continued commitment to representing the aspirations of the people.
“I have always fulfilled my responsibility to represent the aspirations of the people,” Bukhari stated after rejoining the PDP. He disclosed that he met with Party President Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday, leading to his decision to come back to the party fold.
Bukhari’s political journey has been marked by a series of shifts. He was expelled from the PDP in 2018 on charges of anti-party activities following the collapse of the PDP-BJP coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir. In December 2018, he joined the National Conference. His tenure there lasted until 2021, after which he moved to Sajad Lone’s People’s Conference. However, he faced expulsion from the People’s Conference in June 2023.
Bukhari originally joined the PDP in 2003 and was elected from the Sangrama constituency in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district in both 2008 and 2014. During his tenure in the previous PDP-BJP government, he served as the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Relief, and Rehabilitation.
His return to the PDP marks another chapter in his dynamic political career, reflecting the ongoing fluidity and realignment within Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape.
