Srinagar, Jan 14:In an ongoing effort to combat the menace of drugs in society, the Kulgam district police successfully apprehended two drug peddlers, seizing a significant quantity of contraband substance from their possession.
A police team, led by the Incharge of PP Mirbazar at a checkpoint established at Zadoora Crossing on NHW-44, intercepted two individuals, identified as Mudasir Ahmad Ahangar, son of Nazir Ahmad Ahangar, residing in Doru, and Mohd Iqbal Chopan, son of Lal Mohd Chopan, resident of Shangas. The suspects, carrying nylon bags, attempted to evade the police upon noticing the checkpoint but were tactfully chased down and apprehended.
Upon inspection, officers discovered *4.2 kilograms of Poppy Straw-like contraband substance in their possession. Subsequently, a case has been registered under FIR No. 07/2024, invoking sections 8/15 and 29, at Police Station Qazigund, with investigations underway.
The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any instances of drug peddling or criminal activities to the nearest police establishment or by dialing 112. Cooperation from the public is crucial in the joint efforts to eliminate the drug menace, and the police assure stringent action against criminals in accordance with the law.
