Srinagar, Dec 14 (KINS): The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Baramulla has released an urgent advisory ahead of the expected harsh winter conditions in the valley.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the “La Niña” phenomenon will trigger a cold wave, bringing heavy snowfall and frost to the Kashmir region.
These conditions are likely to pose significant risks to vulnerable groups, particularly women, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health issues, across the Kashmir Valley. The DDMA has called for heightened awareness and preparedness to mitigate the potential impact of this severe weather.
A circular issued by the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and District Magistrate Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, as reported by news agency KINS, directs Block Medical Officers (BMOs) to identify high-risk individuals and compile comprehensive data within the next 10 days.
This data must then be submitted to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Baramulla for further action.
The directive also emphasizes that hospitals must ensure an adequate stock of medicines to treat cold-related illnesses and prioritize the urgent care of patients affected by the anticipated cold wave.
Furthermore, the Chief Medical Officer and the Medical Superintendent of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla have been instructed to report any deaths attributed to the cold wave immediately.
These measures aim to mitigate the risks posed by the severe weather conditions forecasted for the Kashmir Valley.(KINS)
